Swimming Sports Writing

We have been writing decriptive recounts about swimming sports last week. Viola and Billy share their stories with us...

The Battle for Swimming

A cold shiver ran down my spine…the race was about to begin. I could feel the freezing grip of the wind forcing me to take another shivering step forward. I crept towards what seemed to be a monster ready to crunch me to dust in one ferocious deadly gulp. Suddenly the buzzer went and I pounced onto the monster like a tiger attacking his prey. For a second I thought I had lost the battle but then with a kick of my legs I broke through the surface of ice, gasping for air. I had made it. I felt so wonderful. I could hear the crowd roar like a bear trying to force itself from a trap. The wind was whispering something in my ear. As I collected my third card I beamed with pride. I could smell the chlorine sticking to me and my wet togs gripping my body like a hand of ice but I didn’t care. I was just happy to have made it.

The Race
I was on the diving board ready to go. The water was staring at me, beckoning me to dive in. BEEP! The horn went off. I dived into the water, the person next to me made a tidal wave over me as I bulleted off. I couldn’t hear or see anything, it was all a blur. With a mouth full of water I glanced at my opponent, he was just in front of me. I knew I needed to go faster. I swam with all my might but he kept getting in front of me. With one last push I hauled myself to the finish line. When I got my card I just about exploded. I couldn’t believe it, I had won!

Swimming Sports

Gwen tells a little about our Swimming Sports day on Tuesday. It was great to see everyone stepping up to their own personal challenges.

On the 6th March the teachers were all ready to have a busy day of swimming sports. We were all sorted at the pool in house colours, blue, red, green and gold. Mr Peart (the boss of the day!) called out everyone that was going to swim first. They blasted off and Miss Porter and Steel gave out cards to those who came first, second, third and fourth.

We did races with freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as flutter board races and sculling races. It took over three hours to get through all the races.

When the day was nearly over we had the relay races with each house entering a team. Kowhai won the relay race.

Ormie the Pig

We have been starting to think about our trip to camp at the end of the term. Marija tells us about a video we watched in class today about a little pig called Ormie and how he teaches us about one of the skills we need to be successful...

Ormie the pig is a pink, chubby guy that sees a fridge. On top of that fridge was a cookie jar filled with cookies. Ormie wanted it really bad, so he tried many things to get them but all of them failed. We watched Ormie because we are going to camp very soon. He was very determined to get those cookies and in the end he won, he got them! I think another way Ormie could have gotten the cookies was to use the toilet plungers up the side of the fridge instead of the front.

We have pasted a link to Ormie below so you can watch him for yourself. We are all hoping to show as much perseverance as Ormie does when we head off to camp in four weeks time.

Creating our portraits

Dion and Ella explain how our beautiful portraits were created...

First we did a quick sketch of the person across from us. They were on an angle so it was easy to draw the nose. When we were sketching our teacher took some pictures of us on an angle. They got printed on to an A4 piece of paper and then we sketched all the detail onto an A3 piece of paper. Then it got photo copied and we got a sharpie and copied the lines and did a little bit of shading. We looked on the photo and found all the bits with light on it and used white crayon on the sketch to show the light. We chose light green, blue and dark green or red, orange and yellow dye and coloured them.
